Bell Micro's deal with Zeus comes just one week after the distributor added 10-Gigabit Ethernet and multi-port Gigabit Ethernet networking gear from Chelsio Communications. Like the Zeus gear, the Chelsio products are designed to boost performance, especially in next-generation data centers. Chelsio's adapters also target the growing need for converged networking, clustering and storage interconnects in high performance servers and storage systems, officials say.

The ramp-up of hosted MSP platforms resold by distributors Ingram Micro and Bell Micro, and the arrival of an MSP-ready platform from Microsoft called System Center Essentials 2007 will likely apply considerable pressure on the popular MSP platform vendors that grabbed headlines in 2006. Smaller, upstart vendors will flood this same market with scrappy new competition.
