He's not a household name, but Joe Swanson has a lot to do with the television coming into people's homes.
As the new president of Rorke Data Inc., he is the head of a company that provides the digital-storage technology that TV stations need, from local outlets to the big American networks and even global channels like MTV Brazil and Bangkok TV.
Now, with Swanson at the helm, the Eden Prairie-based subsidiary of Bell Microproducts Inc. is poised to turn its business into a nine-figure sales machine.

The decision by storage distributor Bell Microproducts to carry the Micron Technology solid state drive product line is another signal that SSDs are no longer a niche product.
Everyone is seriously examining the technology, stated Mark Peters, an analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. He pointed for instance to IBM and Apple in terms of day-to-day use of storage (servers, laptops without regular spinning disk) "turbo" applications (such as Gear 6 and its NAS cache) and EMC's Symmetric.
"And now, Bell Micro adds its significant distribution weight to the industry push/acknowledgment that this is a big deal."
At the same time, no one is suggesting that hard disk drives are going away anytime soon, Peters continued. "The economics are still massively in favor of the round, brown disks."
Under the terms of the distribution agreement Bell Microproducts is carrying Micron's line of DRAM modules, Managed NAND and the RealSSD sold state drive offerings.
